Official statement from Rockstar about hacking GTA 6

Rockstar Games has officially acknowledged and made a statement about the massive leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6 that took place over the weekend. While no one doubted the authenticity of these GTA 6 leaks, many expected how the company would react. Overall, the studio said in a statement that it is “extremely disappointed” with what has happened, but does not expect any long-term consequences.

As many may know, the hacker managed to illegally access and download several materials related to Grand Theft Auto 6. These include about 90 videos of the game’s development, as well as the source codes for GTA 5 and GTA 6. Apparently the hacker wants to sell the source code of Grand Theft Auto 5 and is ready to make a “deal” with Rockstar Games, tantamount to blackmail, regarding the GTA 6 source code. This situation is ongoing, but apparently the source code has not been sold yet, the forums where the hacker was active have been removed, the hacker’s accounts have been deleted, and his position may have been compromised by another hacker. In other words, Rockstar Games may already be monitoring them, but it’s hard to say for sure yet.

An official statement from Rockstar. They are saddened by this hack from the outside, as well as the fact that data about the “next GTA” leaked online. But they are grateful for the support and do not foresee any disruption in the production of the game or the functioning of existing services.

Message from Rockstar Games:

As we mentioned on Twitter recently, we’re doing our best to keep our games running for you as we’re all spending a little more time at home right now. As such, we’ll be sticking to a regular weekly schedule, but keep an eye out for new events and activities in GTA Online and Red Dead Online to help our community stay fresh and fun. We wish our players and their families the best of health and thank you again for your support – Team Rockstar Games.

At the end of the message, they say they intend to continue working on the next Grand Theft Auto game, and that the company looks forward to introducing the game to everyone when it’s ready. Development of the game takes years, so leaking such behind-the-scenes details to the Internet is not the best way to introduce the game. But we hope it doesn’t distract Rockstar from a possible reveal of the game.

Rockstar also thanks all of its fans for their support during this time. Unfortunately, those who sympathize with Rockstar developers whose work has been leaked online in unfinished form may find themselves on the side of those who criticize the footage, which makes no sense. The game is a long way from being finished. This unfounded criticism has even spilled over from GTA 6 leaks to games like Saints Row, and it’s a bad situation that gets worse in many ways. But hopefully Rockstar can come out of this situation better, and when the game is unveiled, the self-appointed critics of the game in development will be able to understand how much work has been put into it.
