The story takes place in post-war Los Angeles, where detective Cole Phelps and his partner try to tame the rampant criminality. Arsons, fraud, and murders are constantly making headlines, keeping the detective busy like never before.
The developers have made an effort to bring a sense of realism to the game through its gameplay depth. Players have access to various means of solving cases, such as searching for and collecting evidence, apprehending suspects, and interrogating witnesses. To piece together the puzzle of crimes, you’ll need to use your resourcefulness, logical thinking, and be attentive enough to read the facial expressions of your conversation partners: are they lying, withholding information, or making things up.
In addition to the main quest, there are side missions available, and you are provided with a car to travel to such cases, like a stolen purse. Bonus points are awarded for completing these additional tasks. The recreation of 1940s Los Angeles and its ambiance is masterfully done.
