In the Forgotten City, the user is transported 2000 years into the past to a civilization plagued by a terrible curse known as the Golden Rule. Under this curse, every citizen suffers for the sins of one. If even one person commits a crime, all in the city are doomed to a terrible fate. To ensure obedience, the remains of previous heroes who failed to achieve their goals are displayed in the city.
The user plays as a hero from our world and, through a series of random events, becomes trapped in a time loop, reliving the same day until they uncover the secret of the Golden Rule, break the curse, and return to modern times. The city itself is a blend of Roman, Greek, Egyptian, and Sumerian architecture, and inhabitants from each of these cultures can be encountered. However, even within this attractive environment, some of the most interesting aspects of this world are the numerous small decorative items that can be picked up and explored.
