Weak Start for Vanguard Sales.

The sales launch for Vanguard has been disappointing. Vanguard set a 14-year low in sales during its first week in the UK, selling fewer copies than only the original Modern Warfare (2007).

Comparing it to Cold War, the game sold 40% worse and a staggering 200% worse than the record-holder, Black Ops (2010).

Reasons for this decline:

  • WWII fatigue among players
  • Competition from releases like Battlefield 2042
  • Player fatigue with Warzone
  • Perceived as just an extension to Warzone
  • General decline in interest in games
  • Lack of innovation
  • Market saturation
  • Anticipation of discounts in the near future
  • The zombie community didn’t buy in due to the lackluster state of the zombie mode, which was announced quite late

This is a shocking low for the franchise, as even titles like Ghosts and Advanced Warfare performed better. In fact, it’s worse than any Call of Duty title except the first four. The true picture will emerge by the fall of 2022 when we can judge based on overall sales.

However, I see this as a positive development. It should incentivize Sledgehammer to focus on delivering more post-launch content.
