The process of reissuing old hits and creating remakes of once popular projects on next-generation systems is gaining momentum. Adventure game developers are keeping up with the trend, with this year already seeing the release of the reboot of Black Mirror, the slightly updated L.A. Noire, Okami HD for PS4/Xbox One, and the port of Syberia on Nintendo Switch. In this review, we will focus on the latter.
The original 2002 adventure game was one of the brightest projects of its time. The atmospheric quest about Kate Walker’s Journey stood out for its touching story, luxurious design, unique winding mechanisms, and eccentric characters.
Since then, a lot of time has passed, but the story of a little boy’s dream to find the legendary Syberia and mammoths, as well as the tale of a modern girl crossing Eastern Europe and venturing deep into Russia, still touches us with its kindness and sincerity – even 15 years after the original release.
