Player Reviews: Battlefield 2042 Takes Gaming to New Heights

Let me share a few thoughts so you can better understand why I evaluate the game this way:

  • I’ve always been more of a Call of Duty fan, and Battlefield just isn’t my cup of tea, although I completely understand those who enjoy it.
  • I knew the game would be weak from the late announcement, the late involvement of additional studios, the complex engine, EA being the least favorable company, lack of information, and the delayed release. Moreover, the leaked alpha version was underwhelming.
  • I don’t comprehend the discontent of “series fans” because since January, there has been talk about Call of Duty channels that the series would collapse, and the game would be over after Battlefield’s release.
  • I got exactly what I expected – a typical Battlefield in my non-enthusiastic understanding. The game’s concept remained the same, just newer.

On the positive side, I liked the environment and weather, but in the series, maps and landscapes have always been very good. Also, the character and weapon design were impressive.

However, there were many things I didn’t like:

  • Factions, as in Vanguard, should not exist like this. Some developers should be on one side, and some on the other.
  • The map (potentially maps) is excessively large and dreadfully empty. I’ve never understood this design, it’s too big for 128 players.
  • The shooting is way too simple, as if they didn’t add aim assist for controllers, and there’s hardly any recoil in any build.
  • The movement, I despise games where characters seem to weigh several hundred pounds. It’s probably more realistic, but I don’t like it. At the same time, the constant tactical sprint is pointless.
  • The interface is simply inconvenient in every way. I would erase the menu and have it rewritten from scratch, but that’s fine. I didn’t even bother looking at the settings.
  • Customization, it’s like weapon customization, but I wanted something different. Perhaps not copying sets like in Call of Duty, but this is not a great solution either.
  • Many bugs, it’s concerning that there are so many, but it’s a beta, after all.

I believe that waiting for a miracle (you’ve already waited) is not worth it. If you didn’t like the game that much, it will get better in a year after release, but not significantly. It will release in a raw state, but they will fix it. Conceptually, it’s just not my thing, and I haven’t changed my mind, but again, I think it’s a full-fledged Battlefield. But with a touch of uncertainty about what this game should be.

I think the sales will be mediocre, and we need to wait at least for the Hazard Zone presentation, which they still promise at release. I’ll grab it in January on sale.

How about you? Did you cancel/make/keep your pre-order? What did you like and dislike?
