Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta Test Review: A Promising Glimpse into the Next Installment

The Call of Duty: Vanguard beta test started on September 10th and proceeded through several stages, concluding on the evening of September 22nd. This latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise was developed by the team at Sledgehammer Games. At first glance, it may seem like a typical reskin, but the creators have introduced a multitude of innovations.

New elements have been incorporated into the gameplay, including overhauls to weapons, abilities, and other details. The pace of combat can significantly influence the gameplay. Players have access to three modes: Tactical, Assault, and Blitz. It’s worth noting that the Tactical mode provides a more measured gameplay experience, allowing for strategic positioning. On the maps, players engaged in 6v6 battles, but selecting the Assault mode increased the pace, with up to 28 players on certain maps. Among the available modes in the beta were familiar options like Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed, alongside the introduction of Patrol, where territorial control and zone retention are key.

The Call of Duty: Vanguard beta test featured a selection of initial maps designed around the classic three-lane system, but with ample sightlines. Unfortunately, the lack of detail negatively impacted the gameplay experience, particularly on the PlayStation 5. Graphics on the PC platform are notably more attractive due to the absence of blurring.

In Call of Duty: Vanguard, the developers promised destructible environments that affect tactical gameplay. Indeed, the environment undergoes changes, and some walls can be breached. This dynamic element makes the maps more dynamic and vibrant. Additionally, dynamic weather transitions have been introduced, adding an interesting dimension to the gameplay.

The beta of Call of Duty: Vanguard faced some classic respawn issues. Weaponry and perks have been reworked. Shooting with the default weapons is far from ideal, as they not only take a long time to aim but also have erratic firing patterns. Players can customize their ammunition types, but it’s crucial to remember that upgrades won’t magically transform a lackluster weapon into a powerhouse.

On the PC platform, some players expressed concerns about the potential for cheating. It appears that aiming assistance makes shooting on consoles easier, which has sparked discussions. Playing the beta version of the game is both enjoyable and enlightening. On one hand, it’s clear that testing will contribute to improving the project, but on the other hand, frustrations arise due to occasional shortcomings and similar issues.
