Sangal have now finalised their personnel for the first season of 2023

Klesti “stikle-” Kola has been announced as the head coach of Sangal less than a month after the 24-year-old parted ways with Bad News Eagles.

This move rounds out Sangal’s personnel for the first season of 2023, the Turkish organisation having previously announced the extension of Robin “ScrunK” Röpke, Kornél “kory” Szedlár and Can “kyuubii” Kamber’s contracts earlier in January.

“After TuGuX’s departure, stikle- was the first person we looked at” Sangal’s manager David “Cube” Hahiashvili said of the signing. “We knew that he was a very important part of BNE’s success, it takes a lot of preparation and work to pass two RMRs and get twice to the Legends Stage. We’re sure we can achieve more than it with him.”

stikle- himself added, “Sangal are a young team with a lot of talent and passion and I feel like this is the right place where my input can be very valuable, and I bring the experience over as well.”

Albanian coach stikle- aided Bad News Eagles’ rise from the fringes of the European circuit to back-to-back Legends Stage appearances at the Antwerp and Rio Majors, though these peaks were in stark contrast to the team’s inconsistent form outside of their Major appearances.

stikle- ultimately left the Eagles at the start of 2023 citing differences in vision for the future of the team and also stating that he would take some time off to undergo surgery. He was REPLACED by former fnatic rifler, coach, and two-time Major winner Jonatan “Devilwalk” Lundberg.

The Sangal Squad stikle- joins managed to qualify for the RMRs of both Majors in 2022, getting to the brink of qualification for IEM Rio only to be bested by MOUZ in a closely fought series. They also qualified for the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown and picked up a surprise 2-1 victory over BIG in the event, which helped them earn their peak ranking of No. 33 in the world.

These successes have driven the organisation to stick with the same five-man roster heading into 2023, which they ensured by extending ScrunK, kory and kyuubii’s contracts. Caner “Soulfly” Kesici’s contract already committed him to the team for the year, whilst Love “phzy” Smidebrant’s loan deal extends through to August.

Sangal are now:

  • Hungary Kornél “kory” Szedlár
  • Germany Robin “ScrunK” Röpke
  • Germany Can “kyuubii” Kamber
  • Turkey Caner “Soulfly” Kesici
  • Sweden Love “phzy” Smidebrant
  • Albania Klesti “stikle-” Kola (coach)
