Dota 2 Update April 21, 2023: How will Medusa change after patch 7.33?
In Dota 2, the latest update brought changes to five heroes, including Medusa. The most curious change is the reduction of base strength to zero. Now the hero starts the game with only 120 health units, which will not grow without items or pumping “pluses”. But the good news is that Medusa’s survivability is still covered by Mana Shield, which absorbs 98% of all incoming damage.
Mana Shield is now a base ability that automatically gains one point at level one. It also migrated to the passive skills section, and now it cannot be disabled using DOOM, Aghanim’s Shard, Hex, Silver Edge, or other means. But Medusa is still vulnerable to Axe’s ultimate, which is not blocked by Mana Shield.
If you’re playing Medusa, you can buy a Magic Wand and a Wraith Band to protect against the first level Culling Blade to avoid falling victim to Axe’s ultimate. If Ax already has a lvl 2 ult, you will also need Power Threads for strength. If you’re using Medusa’s standard set of Power Threads for agility and Manta Style, then you may run into trouble when attacking Ax tier 2.
But after acquiring Eye of Skadi, Ax’s ultimate will no longer intimidate Medusa, at least as long as she stays at full health.
With Reaper’s Scythe Necrophos and Life Break Huskar, things haven’t changed much either. Damage from both ultimates is still based on percentage health. However, with 200 HP at the start of the game, her ultimates won’t be very dangerous for Medusa if she doesn’t build up strength. So if you’re playing Medusa, don’t forget about strength and agility to survive on the battlefield after Dota 2 patch 7.33.
