Free Characters in Honkai Star Rail

Become the best commander in Honkai Star Rail! Unlock new heroes for your team using various methods. Some heroes are available for free after completing specific parts of the game, while others can be obtained from in-game loot boxes – three types of banners.

But don’t worry, in Honkai Star Rail, there’s a chance to get free heroes. For example, the main character, the Trailblazer, who can deal massive damage in the early hours of the game. At the end of the first story chapter, you can change their path and element. Additionally, you can obtain hero companions Dan Han and Mart 7 after completing one of the early missions. With their help, you’ll have a single-target damage-dealing hero and a support with a shield.

Soon, you’ll also gain access to heroes Asta and Serval. The first one drops after the first Jump, and the second one is available through pre-registration, although it seems that all players receive her. Honkai Star Rail: How to Obtain Characters

Getting Characters for Free

You can obtain several characters for free in Honkai Star Rail. For example, when you complete a significant portion of the storyline’s first chapter, you’ll receive Natasha for free, who replaces Mart 7 as a support but instead heals allies instead of providing a shield. You can also obtain two more heroes through dungeons: Virtual Universe will grant you a free Herta, and the Forgotten Hall will unlock Cincua. These are two more options for the first position, although both heroes are considered weaker than Serval.

Jumps

The primary way to obtain characters in the game is through Jumps, which means opening banners (loot boxes) with in-game currency. In-game currency can be obtained for free or through donations, but one player has calculated that by completing all quests and missions, you can perform more than 260 Jumps without any financial investments. Considering drop rates, without donations, you can obtain more than half of the available characters.

Standard Banner

Almost all characters (20 out of 22, excluding the free main character and Zel) are available in the standard Star Jump. This banner will always be accessible, but some rare heroes do not appear there—for example, Zel can be obtained in another Jump. When you open the standard banner, you are guaranteed to receive a five-star hero or weapon every 90 Jumps and a four-star hero or weapon every 10 Jumps.
