Detailed guide on opening Mythic Paths in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Mythic Paths in Pathfinder are one of the main mechanics of the game, providing an opportunity for alternative character progression. They not only help increase the character’s power level but can also create unique role-playing situations during the adventure. There are 10 Mythic Paths in the game, which unlock as you progress through the story.

Mythic Paths are divided based on the following alignments:

  • Swarm-That-Walks โ€” Chaotic Evil
  • Azata โ€” Chaotic Good
  • Lich โ€” Lawful Evil
  • Aeon โ€” Lawful Neutral
  • Demon โ€” Chaotic Evil
  • Gold Dragon โ€” Neutral Good
  • Angel โ€” Lawful Good
  • Trickster โ€” Chaotic Neutral
  • Legend โ€” No alignment preference

Description of Mythic Path Levels

To advance through the levels of Mythic Paths, you need to reach specific story chapters. In the game, there are 9 paths available, such as:

  • Angel โ€“ opens in the prologue, and there are no conflicts present while being in the dungeon beneath Kenabres. The Angel path is the first path the player will encounter in the game and cannot be skipped. The player needs to find the sword of a fallen angel;
  • Demon โ€“ opens in the prologue and is located in the Warden’s Lab. Arueshalae will leave the party in Chapter 5. The Demon Mythic Path unlocks at the end of the Warden’s Lab right after the battle with the boss;
  • Aeon โ€“ opens in Chapter 1, and you should be prepared to visit Kenabres Market Square and Camellia will leave the group. This path is one of the optional ones and has relatively simple requirements. You need to find a dagger that glows at the place where Trindelav was killed and later touch the stone sentinel;
  • Azata โ€“ opens in Chapter 1 and is also located on the Market Square. Be prepared that under certain conditions, Arueshalae can leave the group. The Azata path is one of the starting Mythic Paths that are more challenging to unlock compared to others because it is tied to a questline. First, you need to resolve the conflict between Inquisitor Halrun and the priest, then show the sword and find Ramien in the ruined temple. He will be invisible, so you need a high perception score to interact with him and agree to embark on an unusual quest. After that, you must find the priest and visit the market square to talk to Halrun. Next, you need to deal with him in a way that allows Tallu to escape. Then, return to the temple and talk to the adepts and agree to sing along;
  • Trickster โ€“ opens in Chapter 1 and is found in the Blackwing Library. There won’t be any conflicts here. It’s easy to acquire the Trickster when you simply go to the library and encounter a group of cultists. After a scene appears, you’ll receive special items marked as “Trickster’s Path”;
  • Lich โ€“ opens in Chapters 1 and 2, and is located in the Estrod Tower, the location “Smile of the Leper,” and the Lost Chapel. Seelah will leave the group. Lich is the last of the first 6 Mythic Paths that can be obtained before the end of Chapter 2. It’s crucial to know the sequence of actions. In Chapter 1, the player will encounter the tower’s keeper, who will talk about the Crusader and his mentor; you need to talk to the keeper to gain access to the next part of the quest. In Chapter 2, you’ll have to go to the second location, Smile of the Leper. There, you will need to enter an underground cave and encounter many creatures and treasures. Around the cart, there will be a pulsating energy area, and if the player gets too close, undead creatures will attack. The only way to stop them is to interact with the source. Don’t destroy it to avoid blocking the Lich path. Apart from the above, it’s essential to complete the quest “Struck from the Sky” in the Lost Chapel. There, you will find a hidden door and need to open it by going down. You only need to return the sword, after which the Mythic Path will be unlocked;
  • Legend โ€“ opens in Chapter 5, and its location is N/A. The Legend Mythic Path will open as soon as the player reaches level 8 of the Mythic Path in the main story’s plot. This is the third path that will be automatically given. Special attention is given to abilities and progression. Instead of a regular class level, it will increase to level 40, not the standard 20, which undoubtedly allows for creating a multiclass with two fully leveled branches;
  • Golden Dragon โ€“ opens in the prologue of the second and third chapters. Locations include the caves beneath Kenabres, Smile of the Leper, and Trebizon’s Lair. This Mythic Path is straightforward if you are extremely attentive and cautious, and it can even be missed in the early stages of the game. You must find and save at least one of Trebizon’s eggs, which can be found in the prologue caves right at the beginning of the game. Later, when you rescue the Storyteller, show him the scale, and he will start the “Fate of the Dragon” quest. In the Smile of the Leper cave, you need to find Trebizon’s claw, and in the third chapter, you should show it to the Storyteller. You need to go to the third and final location, Trebizon’s Lair, and meet a character there. You should spare the cultist and be as friendly as possible to unlock the path;
  • Swarm-That-Walks โ€“ opens in the second and third chapters. The locations are Smile of the Leper and Xanthir Vang’s Lair. Swarm-That-Walks can be considered the longest and most challenging Mythic Path, requiring a significant number of sacrifices. You will need to decline assistance from Queen Galfrey. After winning one of the battles, choose an evil dialogue option to collect slimes. During the siege of Drezen, use the slimes to spread a plague to help capture the front. In the third chapter, you will receive a task called “Demonic Parasites,” in which you will encounter Queen Veskavora, but you should not kill her. Later, you will have to fight a walking worm named Zanthur Vang, but before that, ask an interesting question: why did he become part of the swarm and read the notes found in the lair. If this is done correctly, the path to the special project will open, which will take a couple of weeks to study. If everything is done correctly, the hero will have a dialogue with Anevia, and you should choose any option that supports your experiments;
  • Devil โ€“ opens in the third and fifth chapters, with the locations being Drezen and Bastion of Justice. It’s worth noting that it’s easy to obtain the Devil Mythic Path because it is directly related to the choice made earlier in the game. At the very beginning of the game, choose the path of Azata or Aeon, and then the demon Malis will appear, who will want to become an advisor to the crusade. If the player agrees, they can continue to cooperate with him. The player will have to pass numerous trials and several challenging diplomacy skill checks, but success can be achieved even without them. After completing the trial, the Devil Mythic Path will be opened.

Now you know which Mythic Paths are available, which will significantly simplify the player’s task. You will find it much easier to navigate and, most importantly, make decisions.

It’s worth noting the following general rules for the paths:

  • It is important to remember that leveling up in Mythic Paths does not remove the regular character levels, which means you can reach the 20th level of your main class alongside your Mythic Path levels.
  • Only the main character can choose a Mythic Path, while companions will only receive passive effects.
  • After a player reaches the 8th level of their Mythic Path, they will have the option to reconsider their choice. Interestingly, this will grant access to any of the Mythic Paths available later in the game, but you will need to complete a special quest in exchange.
  • The Mythic Path will have a significant impact on your companions, and some companions may approve or disapprove of it based on their own worldview.
  • Your choice will affect the army and troops you have at your disposal at any given time.
