Team-based first-person shooter game, the sequel to Quake IV. The first release in the series without an M rating for adults. Also the first version to receive a T rating for teenagers. The action takes place in the same science fiction world as Quake II and Quake IV, with a prequel serving as a backstory to the second part.
The gameplay is similar to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but includes additions such as controllable vehicles and planes, as well as deployable objects with artificial intelligence. The game offers a greater number of maps and options for computer-controlled bots.
The teams are divided into human (GDF) and alien (Strogg). Although the races are different, both sides use the same basic types of weapons and tools to achieve their goals. Each class has specific tasks during the game based on the abilities of their race. The game also allows for the formation of combat teams to implement coordinated strategies. Players can create these teams themselves or they can be generated by the game, depending on the mission chosen by the user.
