Black Lives Matter: Russian Versions of Call of Duty: MW and Warzone Feature a Statement Supporting the Movement
The past week in the United States has been quite heated due to mass protests by the country’s residents against the use of force by police. Even many major corporations have expressed their support for the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Among them are Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard, who posted a corresponding message in their gaming projects—Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Infinity Ward studio recently released a new patch update for the aforementioned projects, in which a brief statement was added. Here’s what it says:
“Society is under great threat. We are facing issues related to inequality that could divide society. These issues have now come to the forefront. We stand for unity and equal opportunities for all. We condemn racism and unfair treatment of black citizens of the United States. Until the time for change arrives and black lives truly matter, we cannot become the people we aspire to be.”
It’s worth noting that the above message is not Infinity Ward’s first attempt to draw attention to the new movement in the country. The new parts of Call of Duty (Warzone, Modern Warfare, and Mobile), which were scheduled to be released on June 3rd, were not released by the company. An official representative on their Twitter channel stated that these updates were postponed because “it’s time to listen to those who advocate for justice and equality.”
Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard also posted a brief message to its gamers, but did not express support for the new movement. Some players reacted negatively to this gesture, as the company’s leadership had previously stated that they would not interfere in politics and certainly would not involve their developments in political games.
