Why Players Still Continue to Play Dota.

Why do players continue to play Dota 2, even after spending 15-20 thousand hours in this game?

Despite the terrible community and toxicity of Dota, I still like this game. What makes it so good? The variety of situations.

For example, in the attached image, you can see the skills of each Dota 2 hero. And most of them can be combined. Just imagine how cool it is! Take any Dota player at random, and they can easily tell you what each of these skills does just by looking at the picture. And besides abilities, there are over a hundred items and 936 (!) talents in the game. Every match is unique.

Dota is an interesting game. Worth playing. But I wouldn’t recommend anyone to start playing it. Just to grasp the basics, you’ll need a hundred hours, if not two hundred. The learning curve is too steep. And don’t forget that during your “learning” phase, your teammates will insult you in every possible way. I must confess, I can be toxic myself.

Due to the lack of new players and the departure of old ones, the game, unfortunately, is dying. Moreover, the Dota developers, between you and me, don’t care about updates. Sooner or later, the Dota community will shrink to tiny proportions, with only veterans playing.

What could shake up this swamp? Personally, I believe in DOTA 3. But the new Dota should be made following the “easy to learn but hard to master” recipe. Following the League of Legends example.

At the moment, I continue to play Dota, but I’m already looking towards other session-based games where I could immerse myself completely. Perhaps it’s time to visit the Summoner’s Rift?
