Minecraft is an indie sandbox game that has different modes: creative and survival. The main difference and advantage of Minecraft compared to other games in this genre is a fully open in-game world with a multitude of secrets, biomes, mobs, and surprises. The game style of Minecraft consists of square blocks (everything is made up of these blocks – trees, soil, even the character itself), and the texturing is organized in a resolution of 16 by 16 texels.

When Minecraft for PC was in its early stages, it was developed by Notch (Markus Persson). Initially, Minecraft was supposed to be a clone of the popular game Infiniminer at that time. But Markus wanted to focus the gameplay towards Dwarf Fortress. Today, Minecraft is an independent product that is popular among millions of players worldwide.

There are both PC versions and Minecraft for Android, as well as products for gaming consoles. The game itself is written entirely in Java.
