AI Soldiers Will Not Be Mandatory in Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 won’t feature a single-player campaign, but solo gamers aren’t left out in the cold. This time around, DICE is introducing AI bots. Apart from participating in solo play, these bots will also fill up the 128-player battles. You won’t have the option to opt-out of encountering them. However, that doesn’t mean bots will be mandatory participants.

There will be limitations on the number of AI soldiers in matches. As real players join the battle, they will replace the bots. Ideally, Battlefield 2042 will remain popular enough to populate every match.

AI soldiers aren’t intended to be used as specialists. They will perform specific tasks—such as calling in vehicles, capturing objectives, and so on. Apart from aiding in server population, akin to what we’ve seen in Chivalry 2 and some recent Battle Royale games, Battlefield 2042’s bots will offer the flexibility of both cooperative and solo gameplay. However, even for solo play, you’ll still need to be online.
