Activision Severs Ties with the Actor Who Played Ghost in Call of Duty Modern Warfare Due to Sexist and Hateful Comments
Activision, the company responsible for the Call of Duty franchise, has announced that it will no longer collaborate with voice actor Jeff Leach, who voiced the character Ghost. This character is one of the most iconic in the series and appeared as the protagonist in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and as an operator in Modern Warfare and Warzone.
Leach signed a contract to voice Ghost in the 2019 reboot of the game, but now that role has come to an end. Activision made this announcement following a series of surfaced sexist and hateful videos. In 2017, streamer ZombiUnicorn refused to appear on a show where Leach was invited, but they still talked about her, and that’s when Leach began making offensive comments about her body.
Because of these comments, he was banned from Twitch in 2017, but they have resurfaced more frequently. In a video filmed around December 2020 during a Warzone stream, Leach is seen making sexist comments and threatening one of the viewers. Following this, as well as previous incidents, ZombiUnicorn alerted Activision and Facebook Gaming to take action on this matter.
“”Sexism has no place in our industry, in games, or in society. Activision is already working with or will continue to work with Jeff Leach, and we strongly condemn these events and strive to provide a fun and safe experience for all gamers,”” said the statement from Activision. Nevertheless, the voice actor remains in his position at Facebook.
The streamer applauded these actions and referred to Facebook Gaming’s actions:
“”We are still waiting for an answer to the question of how to allow hatred and prejudice to reign on your platform.””
In 2020, PlayStation suspended advertising on Facebook as part of a campaign organized by various associations to combat hate speech on the platform.
The audio recording of the Battlefield 6 trailer has leaked, although the official announcement may be delayed by a few weeks. Facebook has not yet made a decision on this matter. However, the actor continues to broadcast freely, despite having a solid viewer base.
