Interesting article about Source 2 (Gabe Follover)

Initially, it was planned that the transition of CS:GO to the Source 2 engine was to take place back in 2018. However, Valve discovered a significant problem in the beta version of the game – the problem of user content migration. Due to this, the release of the game on the new engine was delayed.

Since the release of Half-Life: Alyx in 2020, Valve has continued to work on a solution to the problem of automatically migrating user-generated content to the Source 2 engine for CS:GO. Reportedly, the company has already found an effective solution to this problem.

Valve wants to avoid repeating the history of CS 1.6 and Source, when a new game was released, but people did not want to move to it, because the old one was still popular. That’s why Valve decided that after the transition to Source 2, CS:GO should feel the same as it does now, for at least a year. This will avoid complaints and negative feedback in the community.
