How to play World of Warships correctly.

World of Warships is a multiplayer game where anyone can become a participant in battles from the first half of the 20th century. Taking the helm of one of 300 historical ships, the user will dive into high-level naval strategy.

If you are a newcomer to the game, this guide will be very useful in order to understand all the nuances of World of Warships.

The essence of the gameplay is to unite in squads and defeat opponents, who can be represented by both teams of real people and bots. Each player controls a warship from the early 20th century. They are divided into four main classes: aircraft carriers, destroyers, battleships, and cruisers.

Ships are divided by “nation” and are presented in the form of a “tech tree,” so one of the player’s tasks is constant improvement and upgrading of the ship. At the same time, a specific class can be purchased for in-game currency or resources, or discovered in one of the loot boxes.

The game features naval fleets from different countries, including the USSR, Great Britain, the USA, Imperial Navy, Imperial Japanese Navy, Italian fleets, French fleets, and other smaller European navies.

Battles take place in randomly selected locations by the computer. The battles occur with various weather conditions, which directly affect the course of the battle.

Let’s delve deeper into ship classes

Destroyers.

Perhaps the lightest ships, but at the same time, one of the weakest. Thanks to their lightness, they are the most maneuverable and inconspicuous among the others. This is achieved through thin armor and relatively small size.

The unique feature of this class of ship is the ability to “lay smoke,” making their camouflage practically perfect in front of opponents.

The weaknesses of the destroyer include its imperfect weaponry. Essentially, it can only win in battle due to its speed and maneuverability. Being the captain of such a ship, it is not advisable to launch aggressive attacks; otherwise, destruction is inevitable. The only sense in this is if the attacker is also a destroyer. Torpedo attacks should be made exclusively while hiding behind islands.

It is categorically not recommended to engage in battles with battleships – the ship’s destruction is inevitable in this case.

However, despite such vulnerability, destroyers perform important functions in the game. Firstly, they scout the map and contribute to the detection of enemy ships. In this case, it is necessary to detect and quickly retreat to the rear.

Secondly, the task of destroyer ships is to arrive at the capture point in the front lines, set up a smokescreen, and hold it until others arrive. In this case, it is strictly forbidden to take any actions to detect the destroyer, i.e., not to initiate fire against enemy ships.

Cruisers.

These are the most versatile ships. Cruisers differ in their characteristics depending on the military states. Their armor and number of hit points are at an average level.

They have good weaponry, equipped with useful modules for reconnaissance, can increase firing range, and have excellent anti-aircraft defenses.

For players, cruisers can be a potential source of rapid experience and frags in battle. The only rule is the correct application of the ship.

Compared to destroyers, they are not as maneuverable. It is important not to get into the sights of the opponent’s team, as the chances of staying intact are minuscule.

One of the tasks of a cruiser in the game is to cover battleships, as they are the direct allies of the ship. Cruisers protect aircraft carriers because the latter do not have onboard weapons for defense.

They can easily be destroyers for enemy destroyers and cruisers that enter the strike zone.

If the team has players with weak anti-aircraft defenses, then it is the cruiser’s duty to stay closer to them.

Helping a teammate has never been canceled: a cruiser is an integral part of the team and takes full part in the group attack on the enemy battleship.

Battleships.

Rightly so, these are the most resilient ships. Despite their slowness, they are practically invulnerable due to their own armor and hit points. These ships attack opponents from long distances, and sometimes enemy ships don’t even understand where the shells are coming from.

Their shells penetrate any armor, and their own allows them to withstand any attacks.

Battleships are battlefield controllers. Often, the ships serve as cover for a whole direction.

Aircraft Carriers.

Bombers and torpedo bombers are the main weapons against the enemy for this class of ship. However, not having their own onboard weapon for defense, they need cover like no one else, as the ship can become a victim even to a destroyer if it gets too close.

To assume that switching to an aircraft carrier, a player will be safe, is a big mistake. Bitter disappointment awaits here. An enemy counterpart can attack from an aircraft, and then the ship becomes completely defenseless.

The optimal task for this ship is reconnaissance and attacking opponents in different parts of the map.

Having understood the classes of available ships, it is worth highlighting the main types of battles.

  • Cooperative battle – a battle against bots. A team of up to 8 real players fights against enemy ships of a similar class controlled by artificial intelligence. In case the actual composition is less than the required number of participants, bots are automatically added to the team.
  • Random battle – the main battles of the game, available to the gamer after 3 battles on the account. Teams are randomly assembled and can reach up to 12 players.
  • Operations – special battles against bots that contain specific missions. Successful completion of these missions guarantees various rewards to the winners.
  • Ranked battle – seasonal events with quantitative and qualitative restrictions on the team composition. To advance from the lower rank in this round, you need to accumulate stars earned for victories in battles.
  • Ranked Sprint – available after the 130th battle on the account. It involves fewer ranks and is limited to a specific season.
  • Clan battle – seasonal battles where both teams compete against each other with 7×7 ships of the X class. The reward is rating points for advancement in leagues. The main condition for participating in clan battles is 200 or more battles on the account.
  • Clan Brawl – a subtype of clan rank that lasts for one day.
  • Training room – a place where you can acquire and hone skills with bots or real players, without losing in-game resources.
