A new way to abuse MMR in Dota 2: how boosters and account sellers bypass the rating system

With the release of patch 7.33, Dota 2 saw changes to the rating system that opened up new opportunities for boosters and account sellers. One Reddit user posted an MMR abuse scheme for Valve to take notice and take action.

This unfair way of raising the rating occurs at the Titan ranks, where two captains are randomly selected before the start of the game, who alternately select players for their teams. Account sellers play in parties, and boosters, if they don’t become captains, end up in another team and deliberately spoil the rinks.

When the difference in MMR between players becomes too big to continue playing together, the player with the higher MMR creates a smurf account, calibrates it, and sells it to continue the MMR abuse. This method is used not only by boosters, but also by ordinary players who want to raise their rating.

I wonder why Valve doesn’t pay enough attention to these changes. It’s even worse than when they combined Solo and Party MMR, which ruined the party mode at high ratings.

In addition, since the release of patch 7.33, more than 430 bugs have been found in Dota 2, but most of them have not been fixed yet. Valve needs to take more serious action to prevent this kind of MMR abuse and ensure fair play in Dota 2.
