Due to Sexist Scandal, Work on WoW is Halted. Will Players Shift to New World?

Recently, on his Twitter account, Jeff Hamilton talked about what is currently happening at Activision Blizzard. According to him, the scandal has affected almost all departments.

All of this happened because developers were taken to court. On July 22, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing filed the lawsuit. The scandal escalated very quickly, and, according to Jeff, they simply couldn’t continue working as usual. Jeff also mentioned that such cases are not uncommon nowadays. However, it’s clear that many individuals may not have equal rights within the company regardless of the situation.

Furthermore, another stumbling block for Blizzard is that there is currently a closed beta test for a WoW competitor, a new high-profile project from Amazon – New World.” The test costs 1600 rubles. This poses a risk that a significant number of WoW players may switch to the competitor, which is definitely not in Blizzard’s favor. It’s also worth noting that two editions of “New World” became the best-selling games on Steam last week. As you can imagine, this is a very serious statement.

This project is impressive with its hype. On the night of July 25-26, it reached a record-breaking online player count of 200,000. Only a few legendary projects have had more players: GTA 5, PUBG, Dota 2, Apex Legends, and CS:GO.

In conclusion, it can be said that if the problems within Activision Blizzard do not stop soon, WoW may lose a significant audience, which would certainly not be desirable. The closed beta test of “New World” will be available until August 2nd. According to the developers, the game is expected to be released at the end of next month.
