Microsoft Flight Simulator: the legendary Dornier Do J Wal

Following World Update VIII: Iberia, Asobo Studio and Microsoft offered players another plane from the “Local Legends” series – the Dornier Do J Wal, an incredibly beautiful flying boat created in the early 1920s by the German designer Claudis Dornier. Just look at this beauty.

The Dornier Do J Wal was used to explore the North Pole, participated in wars, was a passenger and postal plane, and was part of the fleet of Deutsche Luft Hansa (the forerunner of today’s Lufthansa, created in 1953 after Deutsche Luft Hansa closed in 1945). The Dornier Do J Wal, which made its first flight in 1922, flew until the early 1950s.

Three versions of the Dornier Do J Wal – Cabina (1924), Plus Ultra (1926), N-25 (1930), can be purchased together in the Microsoft Flight Simulator in-game store for $14.99.

Speaking of Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace. Back on March 24, Microsoft announced the beginning of a charity campaign for the benefit of Ukraine. As part of this initiative, from March 24 to March 31, $5 from every purchase in the MSFS Marketplace were transferred to the International Rescue Committee (IRC), an organization created at the initiative of Albert Einstein in 1933, which provides long-term assistance to refugees and persecuted or natural disasters for individuals. The amount of aid collected in this way has not yet been announced.

In addition, it became known what prevented Asobo Studio and Microsoft from releasing the legendary An-2 Cornhusker in early March 2022. As it turned out, the problem was in the same management of SE Antonov, which was recently dismissed. According to the Microsoft Flight Simulator forum, representatives from Asobo Studio and Microsoft simply could not get in touch with Antonov representatives to coordinate the final details, including licensing issues. According to former Dream commander Dmytro Antonov, Antonov’s leadership fled Ukraine at the beginning of the war and hid in Leipzig.

So Asobo Studio had to change their plans urgently, but instead of the An-2 they produced a second aircraft, the Beechcraft Model 17. We hope that the new management of SE “Antonov” will finally “find” and we will see our An-2 in the skies of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
