What to Expect from Call of Duty in 2021? Is It a COD2009 Analog?

COD2021 – Is this COD2009? Yes – it’s MW2 Remastered.

Today (tonight for us), the community was stirred up by a new leak suggesting that this year’s Call of Duty will be MW2 Multiplayer Remastered.

Subsequently, everyone speculated that this could also bring Warzone back to our times. There are numerous arguments for and against this, and I have a couple of thoughts on it too. Here’s what everyone is thinking:

Arguments Against

  • MW2 multiplayer is the most classic and beloved game in the franchise’s history. It’s their trump card that they’ll always release in a year when COD sales might be struggling, serving as a profit driver because everyone will buy it.
  • A campaign remaster has already been sold, so releasing only the multiplayer this year seems quite risky.
  • If MW2MPR is released this year, then MW2 (a sequel to MW2019) will have to be released next year, causing significant confusion.

Arguments For

With a new Battlefield releasing this year, many players will be deciding between COD and BF. Even those who buy both will spend more time in one. Releasing a previously beloved multiplayer under these circumstances seems more logical, and it’s also more cost-effective.

  • A World War II game can’t compete with a contemporary game.
  • They need to bring Warzone’s narrative back to the present. While Verdansk ’84 was planned long ago, players aren’t particularly fond of the Cold War storyline. We need to see what happened to our operatives and how they’ll re-enter Warzone to participate in the events of MW2022.

There are also talks that the battle pass and content will be tailored to MW2 remastered.

All in all, it’s quite intriguing, and I’m all for it. I loved this game when I was 14, and I really don’t want any World War II content in Warzone. Although, I see no issue with them doing something similar to Infinity Warfare, releasing a remastered deluxe edition and selling it separately a bit later.
