Changes have occurred in the game Call of Duty: Black Ops — Cold War, introducing a new mode called “Onslaught.” Four players will have to survive in a zombie mode. However, the game is unique, and characters need to complete several special tasks. What can fans expect, and what tricks can they use to survive until the end?

What Makes Call of Duty: Black Ops — Cold War Unique

The game’s storyline unfolds in the territory of the Soviet Union, specifically in the mountainous region of the Ural. A new component of the Dark Aether is hidden here. Members of the “Requiem” team set out to find it. Along the way, this elite group clears out zombies and other monsters posing a threat to the living. These are the main tasks the team will face.

“Defense” Mode

The “Requiem” team is tasked with obtaining a sample of an as-yet-unknown Dark Aether element and loading it into a special machine. While the machine downloads the data, players will have to fend off zombie attacks, and they will face several waves. The best defense option is to use weapons effective at short and medium distances. It’s crucial to protect the equipment and the machine processing the information during the skirmish.

“Escort” Mode

Through one of the interdimensional portals leading to the Dark Aether, a cart carrying a valuable sample is moving. The group will need to exert maximum effort to protect this crucial cargo. The mission’s complexity lies in the uncertainty of the portal’s location: it could be anywhere on the map of the mode. As in the previous mode, pistols, grenades, and shotguns will be more effective in combat.

“Extraction” Mode

A similar mode can be found in other popular games. At this stage, players need to locate containers filled with Aether crystals and quickly hide them in a secure location. Containers need to be carried by hand, meaning one team member will have to carry the container while another covers them. If monsters catch up and corner the operatives, they can buy time by activating the container, helping to obliterate enemies.

“Elimination” Mode

Those who dare to undertake “Elimination” won’t have it easy. Players are faced with the daunting task of confronting particularly dangerous enemies. The enemy’s locations can be seen thanks to a special tracker. The mode’s peculiarity is that players must choose whether to avoid encounters with monsters as long as possible or seek them out and exterminate them. The latter option is more challenging but can help get rid of ordinary zombies.

“Holdout” Mode

In this phase, operatives must destroy an unstable Aether crystal. To carry out the mission, they need to enter the Dark Aether. Fortunately, the standard zombie mode rules apply there. Players find themselves in a building under attack by waves of zombies. Heroes can board up windows to hold off the living dead for as long as possible. Their task is to withstand the onslaught until the timer runs out.
