There are no rules or strategies for this game. Buddy is created to withstand all the tortures that the user can come up with. He gets beaten with a club, hammered, squeezed with clamps, shot with a bow, and set on fire. If the standard methods of torturing the doll get boring, the player can call on wild animals for help. You can change the doll’s clothes and add funny accessories.

At the beginning of Kick the Buddy, the player has access to cold weapons and pistols. After several stages of the game, other weapons are added: cannons, rifles, and more. Some weapons are initially locked at the start of the game.

The graphics in Kick the Buddy resemble a cartoon, and the character looks cute. The action is enhanced by sound effects: the doll screams and makes various sounds during the game. Buddy comically jerks around during hits, as if dancing.
