The story begins six centuries after the events of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in the year 3E 433. The ruler Uriel Septim VII is killed while attempting to escape from the imperial city, upon learning that his sons are dead. However, before his death, he passes the Amulet of Kings to the person who will become the Hero of Kvatch. He is a humble prisoner whom Uriel saw in his dreams and gave him the instruction “how to close the Oblivion.”
The adventure begins after escaping from prison and searching for a person named Jauffre – and ultimately, the illegitimate son of Uriel, the last surviving heir to the Septim throne, hidden for protection since birth. The Hero must stop the invasion from Oblivion and stand between the future of Tamriel and the Daedric Prince of Destruction himself.
