The Ministry of Digitalization Urges Valve to Resume Payments to Ukrainian Developers.

The gaming internet platform Steam, owned by the corporation Valve, halted payments to developers from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus last month. Now, the Ministry of Digital Transformation is requesting Valve to resume payments for Ukrainians. This was stated by Alexander Bornyakov, the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT development.

Previously, Valve explained the suspension of payments by stating that the bank requires information about intermediary banks for transfers in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The company is working on meeting these new requirements and gathering information, but it may take some time. Developers on Steam were advised to wait or to provide a bank not operating in these countries for payments.

In an appeal to Valve, the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, noted that no Ukrainian bank is subject to sanctions, unlike Russian banks. Furthermore, no other platform has halted payments to Ukrainians during the war.

The Ministry expects clarification from Valve. Fedorov also called on the company to disclose the name of the bank that requires additional information and the legal basis for this requirement.
