Valve: Soon There Will Be Payments for Ukrainian Developers on Steam.

Valve has stated that they are working on reinstating Steam payments for Ukrainian developers. Valve has not yet been paying Ukrainian game developers for sales on Steam, but the company has stated that they are working on resuming payments.

About two weeks ago, Valve announced that it had suspended payments to Russian and Belarusian developers due to sanctions. However, strangely, this decision affected Ukrainian developers as well, and they also received notifications of halted payments for games sold on Steam.

At the time, Valve stated that this was a “consequence of the current environment,” presumably referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing war that has been ongoing for over a month now. In an email, Valve asked Ukrainian game developers to update their banking information to resume payments.

Since then, Valve has clarified the issue with Ukrainian game developers, stating that payments will be resumed once the company aligns with the bank’s new requirements.

In an email published on Twitter by Ukrainian developer Stas Shostak, Valve reports that the company’s bank “notified about the requirement to provide information about the intermediary bank for all bank transfers to accounts in Russia and Ukraine.”

Valve added that they are “working on clarifying all the new requirements” and “establishing a path to gather this information” to resume payments. Any outstanding balances will be directed as soon as they receive this clarification.

In a conversation with PC Gamer, Stas Shostak stated that many Ukrainian game developers are not taking any risks and have already changed their banking information to accounts in neighboring countries. “All my Ukrainian friends from game developers report the same situation,” he said. “Some (including myself) are just waiting for the next month, some have decided to open accounts in foreign banks to be absolutely sure they will receive the next payment.”

It’s frustrating that similar promises to resume payments once the necessary information from their bank is provided are not extended to Russian developers. However, Belarusian accounts have simply been disabled from receiving payments from Steam.
