CD PROJEKT RED announced a new game in The Witcher series.

The Polish studio CD PROJEKT RED has announced that the next installment of The Witcher video game series is already in development and will utilize a new engine – Unreal Engine 5, from Epic Games.

The upcoming game will kick off a new saga within The Witcher universe. Judging by the first image released by the studio, the game will feature a new protagonist belonging to a new school – the School of the Lynx, never mentioned in previous games. On the other hand, the medallion shown possibly hints at the School of the Cat.

Like its predecessors, this will be a single-player AAA CRPG focusing on story and the choices players make.

In addition, CD PROJEKT RED also announced that after 13 years of developing their own REDengine, the studio is transitioning to the latest version of Unreal Engine 5 as part of a long-term strategic partnership with Epic Games. This new collaboration with Epic covers not only the licensing of the engine but also technical support, including future versions of Unreal Engine.

The developers at CD PROJEKT RED will work closely with Epic’s developers with the main goals of helping adapt the engine for open-world gameplay, starting with the development of the next game in The Witcher franchise.

This is very promising news, raising hopes that CD PROJEKT RED’s next game will be less buggy than the Infamous Cyberpunk 2077.

Currently, little else is known about the new installment of The Witcher, and it seems the game is still at least 2-3 years away. Well, patience is a virtue.
