How to lower ping in CS:GO?

Expert’s Answer

How to lower ping in CS:GO?

First of all, you need to turn on the console and enter the net_graph 1 command. It will display your connection parameters on the screen, by which you can find out the reason.

If loss > 0 and choke = 0, the problem is on your side (from the PC or from the provider). If choke > 0 and consistently high (15% or more), then there are problems on the server side. This is easier, because the server can be changed.

Close all unnecessary programs and check your computer for viruses. If you play over Wi-Fi, then this is also one of the reasons for poor ping. First of all, we recommend switching from a wireless network to a cable. This will remove about 20-30 ms of ping. And remember, the closer the server, the lower the delay.

Also try using the following console commands, which indirectly affect ping (values can be changed):

  • +cl_updaterate 100  — The number of game update requests per second from your PC to the server. The fewer of them, the lower the ping will be.
  • +cl_cmdrate 100  — the number of update requests from the server to your computer. It is worth setting the same value as in cl_updaterate, or lower.
  • +rate 25 000  — traffic between you and the server (in bytes per second). The lower the value, the lower the network load and the lower the ping should be. But in order to update the information in time, you should not use values below 3,000.
  • +cl_interp_ratio 1  — number of gaps between frames — interpolations of the game world. The game is updated in jerks, and to make everything on the screen as smooth as possible, additional frames are calculated between the main frames. But if the Internet is weak and the computer is low-powered, these frames are difficult to build and display.
  • +cl_interp 0.01  — interpolation interval length in ms. Calculated as the ratio of cl_interp_ratio to cl_updaterate.
