Swedish Esports Pro joel Denies ESIC Allegations

Swedish esports athlete Joel “joel” Holmlund is under the spotlight after facing allegations from the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) for engaging in bets against himself. However, the player vehemently denies these accusations and has taken to his Twitter page to share his stance.

joel claims that ESIC has wrongfully accused him of events he did not partake in. He highlights that following a thorough discussion with ESIC’s Head, Jan Smith, at the end of August, it was decided not to take any further actions. Additionally, the esports pro plans to provide an official response to the allegations by October 6th, in collaboration with his legal counsel.

Sharing his experience, joel states, “On August 30th, I received a notification of the allegations from ESIC and immediately reached out to ESIC’s Head, Jan Smith. We jointly arrived at the conclusion that no further action is required at this time. However, after my qualification for BLAST and various discussions on social media, ESIC appears to have changed their stance, and on September 19th, I received another notification of the allegations.”

Today, on September 20th, ESIC issued a public statement regarding Holmlund’s disqualification due to betting-related violations. They assert that evidence of numerous breaches of the Commission’s anti-corruption code has been found, including during the online tournament BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic 2023, where joel, playing for the GODSENT team, placed bets against himself.

It’s worth noting that GODSENT has also released an official statement, emphasizing their non-involvement in joel’s actions. According to the provided information, cooperation with the player was suspended immediately after receiving relevant evidence from ESIC.
