SCS Software Delays Release of Euro Truck Simulator 2 – Heart of Russia DLC.
SCS Software has indefinitely postponed the release of the Euro Truck Simulator 2 expansion, Heart of Russia. Originally slated for a spring 2022 release, the map expansion for the trucking simulator has been delayed due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Despite having a completed DLC that represents a significant investment of time and resources, the studio is hesitant to release it, fearing potential reputational damage. Pavel Šebor, the head of SCS Software, discussed the situation with Czech outlet Vortex.
“We can’t release the DLC now. Russians simply won’t be able to purchase it, and the mere act of releasing it could be seen as a provocation. We’ll wait for things to settle down and hope for the best. Even if we were to release the Heart of Russia DLC now and donate all the proceeds to Ukraine, many fans would still be unhappy that we’re promoting a release we shouldn’t be advertising.”
In addition, another SCS Software representative, Marketing and PR Manager Daniel Nemec, mentioned that the community is divided. Some demand that the studio halt work on the DLC and immediately begin development on a Ukrainian expansion, while others believe that Heart of Russia should still be completed and released.
Earlier, on March 4, 2022, SCS Software released a smaller DLC, the Ukrainian Paint Jobs Pack for Euro Truck Simulator 2, featuring several Ukrainian truck skins. All proceeds from the sales of this DLC, priced at just 19 UAH for Ukrainians, are being donated to the People in Need charitable foundation to assist Ukrainian refugees. It’s regrettable that it took a war for SCS Software to finally produce a DLC that Ukrainian players have been requesting for over five years.
