Major cinemas in Russia stop showing foreign films!

Starting April 20, several of the largest cinemas in Russia will stop showing pirated copies of foreign films. Among them are such blockbusters as “Super Mario Bros. Movie”, “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania” and others. According to information from the Film Distributor’s Bulletin, this decision was made by the Mirage, Almaz, Monitor, Lumen, Five Stars, Illusion, and Dream Empire cinemas. However, don’t be discouraged as other smaller theaters will continue to screen foreign films.

So far, there is no official statement on the reasons for this temporary measure. But perhaps this is due to the release of the new Russian film “The Challenge” directed by Klim Shipenko. Perhaps this step will help promote Russian cinematography on the world stage.

This is the time when people most often watch movies online, but fans of the big screen may look to smaller theaters that will still show foreign films. In addition, it may open up new opportunities for Russian film production.
