The new CoD: Modern Warfare patch is about 50 GB larger, with the game now taking up around 200 GB of space.
On August 5, 2020, the 5th season of Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare was released. This new update is quite large, with a hefty 56 GB in size. As a result, gamers will likely need to download and install it over the course of several days.
This substantial update includes a couple of new game modes, a battle pass, and new maps for Verdansk, and it now occupies more disk space than many high-quality modern PC games. The patch is also quite a burden to download via Battle.net.
Gamers with computers equipped with 256 GB SSD drives will face quite a challenge when it comes to downloading this new patch. The compressed version of the update takes up 200 gigabytes, and before compression, it was a whopping 240 GB. This means that many gamers may simply be unable to install such a massive update.
In essence, the size of this update is twice as large as Total War: WARHAMMER and significantly larger than games like Black Ops 3, Gears of War 4, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Furthermore, the latest patch is the size of four World of Warcrafts.
It’s quite surprising that the Gulag and Verdansk occupy much more space than expansive open-world locations in other games. In fact, the location for the Battle Royale mode is only 9 square kilometers, which is relatively small compared to other modern games.
For comparison, consider Red Dead Redemption 2, which sprawls across 75 square kilometers, and in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, the main location covers a massive 256 square kilometers. Interestingly, the latter game takes up just over 46 GB of disk space.
