Can You Be Evil in Hogwarts Legacy?

Can You Be Evil in Hogwarts Legacy?

Yes, you can be an evil Witch or Wizard in Hogwarts Legacy, however your evil actions won’t be too impactful in the world around you.

Players can learn and use the Dark Arts in combat, including all 3 Unforgivable Curses allowing them to torture, kill, or even control certain enemies in a fight.

On top of that, your decisions, evil or not, can impact the Hogwarts Legacy story to a certain degree. And with a few major decisions, you’ll even be able to affect the ending of the Harry Potter game.

“It was important for us to give players who sought out to be a Dark Witch or Wizard an opportunity to do so”. Lead Designer of Hogwarts Legacy Kelly Murphy states.

“This is the ultimate embodiment of role-playing; allowing the player to be evil. Additionally, this was important because it comes from a place of non-judgment by the game creators. If you want to be evil, be evil.”

But anyone that’s expecting to become Lord Voldemort and rampage around Hogwarts causing chaos will be in for a disappointment. The amount you can affect other students with spells is very limited, at least outside of combat encounters.

Can You Become a Dark Lord in Hogwarts Legacy?

No, you won’t be becoming a Dark Lord of any sort in Hogwarts Legacy. Throughout the story, although you’ll have choices to make, you’ll still attend Hogwarts classes and help those in need.

The closest you’ll get to being a Dark Witch or Wizard is taking part in the Dark Arts Battle Arena or dressing in Dark Arts Cosmetics that come with the Deluxe Edition of Hogwarts Legacy.

That said, all 3 Unforgivable Curses are available to learn in Hogwarts Legacy, though none are mandatory.

Choosing to use the forbidden spells won’t lead to you getting locked up in Azkaban, however. And with no morality system present in Hogwarts Legacy, neither the students nor teachers will mind much about you using Avada Kedavra on your enemies.

However, Lead Designer Kelly Murphy does go on to tease that “should the player continue these actions, the world will reflect back knowledge of them.”

What exactly that means, we’ll have to wait and see.
