Despite the similarity in name, MultiVersus has no relation to Zuckerberg’s Metaverse or any other “meta universes”. MultiVersus is a free fighting platformer (2v2, 1v1, and all against all) published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and features characters from different universes owned by Warner Bros., DC Comics, HBO, Turner Entertainment, and Cartoon Network.
Currently, MultiVersus features nearly two dozen fighters – Batman, Arya Stark, Rick and Morty, Tom and Jerry. They can fight each other without restrictions, allowing players to determine who is stronger – Wonder Woman or Bugs Bunny, Superman or Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. Sounds crazy? The game trailers also look, let’s say, unusual, but the gameplay seems to be at least decent in MultiVersus.
It seems that the publisher was satisfied with the Early Access on Steam (with peak online players exceeding 60,000) and yesterday opened beta access to everyone interested – judging by the current rating (91% positive reviews and nearly 19,000 ratings), MultiVersus seems to be liked by players so far.
The game will be distributed as free-to-play – the base version can be played for free, while additional features (unlocking characters, battle passes, cosmetics, in-game currency, etc.) are available for separate purchase – currently, on Steam, three different “Founder’s Packs” can be purchased ranging from 1,399 to 3,299 UAH. The duration of the open beta is unknown, but the start of the first season is expected on August 9th – most likely, this day will serve as the game’s actual “soft launch”.
