Companies Included in Activision.

All this talk about the new studio for Warzone got me thinking about the structure of Activision.

So, here are the companies that are part of Activision:

  • Infinity Ward โ€“ to some extent, the primary company that has released the most Call of Duty games. They developed the first part and created the brand, which was later acquired by Activision. They are the main developer for Warzone and are currently working on the new Modern Warfare. Although the company is not currently working on Warzone, they are creating a new map while working on MW2 in parallel.
  • Treyarch โ€“ the second-largest contributor to the series, currently supporting Cold War and zombies. They have never worked on Warzone.
  • Sledgehammer Games โ€“ released several Call of Duty games and are currently working on COD 2021, or maybe MW2 remastered, nobody knows for sure. They participated in the creation of Warzone.
  • Raven Software โ€“ a supporting studio, now the primary developers of Warzone.
  • Beenox โ€“ in recent years, they have been porting COD games to PC.
  • Toys for Bob โ€“ now also working on Warzone, it’s unclear if they will continue to make their own games.
  • Demonware โ€“ responsible for the netcode; without them, COD multiplayer wouldn’t work.
  • High Moon Studios โ€“ also currently working on Call of Duty, worked on CW and MW 2019.

Essentially, each of these studios is now, in one way or another, working on Call of Duty, but this has only been the case recently. Previously, they developed many other games. Interestingly, almost every one of these studios has 50+ open job positions. I don’t have high hopes for COD 2021, but I feel that in the next Warzone seasons, it will become even more powerful, and the new Call of Duty games will be in good hands. Everyone has noticed that many studios are working on the new Battlefield, but not as many as on Call of Duty. And I haven’t even considered COD Mobile.

Now, some armchair analysis:

I think Treyarch will focus on releasing only zombie games as a separate product in the future.

Infinity Ward, according to rumors, has taken control, and we will have different COD games but on one powerful engine and under supervision.

Most likely, Sledgehammer will be the second studio.

And all the others will continue to work on Warzone, which will become even bigger and more independent.
