Joel Banned by Akros Anti-Cheat
Joel “joel” Holmlund, a Swedish player, has been banned by the Akros anti-cheat client, which subsequently led to BC.Game’s disqualification from the CCT Season 2 Europe Series 7. The ban was confirmed by Akros after joel joined the server for his team’s match against B8.
Initially, BC.Game was allowed to proceed with the first map using a substitute after a significant delay. However, the team was disqualified from the tournament before the second map commenced.
A representative of GRID, the organization behind the CCT Series, informed HLTV that “with the information we have, we have no reason to believe it’s a false positive. He got banned and Akros later confirmed this ban to be true.” The exact reason for the ban was not disclosed by GRID.
Joel’s History with ESIC
Joel has previously faced suspension by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) for violations of their anti-corruption code. In August of last year, joel was suspended due to suspected breaches, which included betting on matches he played in and match-fixing.
In January 2024, ESIC lifted joel’s suspension after finding no “compelling or conclusive” evidence of match-fixing. Despite this, ESIC upheld the charges related to betting. Joel’s “full and candid cooperation” and his “genuine contrition and commitment to seeking professional help” for gambling issues were factors in lifting his ban.
Lack of Responses
HLTV reached out to both Akros and BC.Game for statements regarding the incident, but did not receive any responses at the time of publishing.
