Figures from Activision Blizzard and Others.
The game was launched in China at the end of 2020 and has already attracted tens of millions of new players. Call of Duty Mobile has crossed the $1 billion mark in player spending since its release in October 2019.
Activision claims that Call of Duty Mobile has already surpassed 500 million downloads, which is comparable to 100 million players in Warzone and 400 million sales of traditional Call of Duty games. Just imagine the number of players on mobile devices being as high as in Warzone and traditional COD games combined; it’s mind-boggling. Warzone will be integrated with the new version of Call of Duty this year. We previously reported on the new COD. Sledgehammer Games is expanding and opening a new studio in Toronto. Activision Blizzard seems to have hardly mentioned Overwatch 2; it must be far from release.
They say that in the future, the team will update the first part of the game. As you may recall, their plans no longer included new content for it, such as new maps and heroes. But I wonder if this has changed now that Overwatch 2 has been pushed back somewhere far, and it’s now unclear when the new part will be released. It seems they will have to support the first part significantly more and for a longer time than they originally planned.
