Shooters of 2022: what gamers are looking forward to?

Shooters are perhaps the most popular genre in games, so many gamers eagerly await games in this genre for years. It’s worth noting that this genre always features a first-person view and constant movement around the main character. The protagonist usually wields powerful and formidable weapons, with occasional third-person camera perspectives. But the goal always remains the same: kill everything that moves and stay alive.

Starting from 2022, there are some cool releases expected in this genre this year. What new releases are gamers looking forward to? This year kicked off with the fantastic Dying Light 2, and some average titles like Shadow Warrior 3 and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Extraction, and the frankly abhorrent CrossfireX.

However, there are still many cool releases ahead this year, and we’ve tried to tell you about the ones you absolutely must play at least once.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Developer: Gearbox Software, the game is set to release on March 25, 2022 (though only the beta was shown on this date, the full release has not happened yet). It will be available on platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.

The game tells the adventures of Tiny Tina, who finds herself in her own world filled with wild fantasies. We’ve already published information about the game and a review of it, and our authors were pleased with what was added to the game. The full content has only recently become available, and our authors have played only the beta version.

Atomic Heart

Developer: Mundfish, the game is set to release in 2022 (exact date is unknown). It will be available on platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.

A controversial and long-in-development project about an alternative version of the Soviet Union in the 1960s-70s. Developers have already showcased videos about the game, but without actual gameplay. However, they constantly claim that the game is being developed and improved.

Scandals often arise when former studio employees leak information about the current state of the studio, the game itself, and so on. However, the management states that the employees are simply disgruntled due to their dismissal, and the game is progressing as planned.

A significant amount of money has been invested in development, and it’s unclear from whom exactly. They often release videos of different “gameplay,” but it’s not actual gameplay. It’s often noticeable that there is no actual gameplay and not even footage from the game. It immediately brings to mind how they showed two hours of gameplay and the demo version of Cyberpunk 2077 to journalists, only to later reveal that it had nothing to do with the actual game.

Similarly here, the developers promised the game Atomic Heart in 2022, but there is no exact date, and rumors suggest a delay to 2023. Russian developers neither provide answers nor a finished product; they simply keep postponing the game.

Warhammer 40000: Darktide

Developer: Fatshark, the game is set to release in 2022 (exact date is unknown). It will be available on platforms: PC and Xbox Series X/S.

A new shooter similar to “Warhammer.” Players are promised both team and solo gameplay, where you can kill hordes of enemies to protect Tertium.

It’s known that darkness wants to kill the faithful children of the Emperor. Heretics seek to take over the planet Atoma Prime. Only the Holy Inquisition can stop them, and as the main hero, can you challenge this Chaos?

The game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is released as a continuation of Vermintide: Warhammer, but the setting has changed to a futuristic one, with its own shooting system, in addition to melee combat. However, whether to kill manually or with weapons is a decision only you can make.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodhunt

Developer: Sharkmob AB, the game is set to release in 2022 (preliminarily in spring). It will be available on platforms: PC and PlayStation 5.

A new battle royale featuring vampires in the Vampire The Masquerade game. The game was provided in early access and had two closed beta testing acts, with the first in 2021. It received many positive reviews, and the developers actively engage with their gaming community. They are continuously developing and listening to player feedback, indicating a real commitment to making the game enjoyable for gamers.

The Masquerade is in complete chaos. Inside the Camarilla, there is a rift where once century-old rules and laws were upheld. However, clans are now settling scores with each other and seeking to seize power.

Each clan has its unique characteristics, and clan members have their special abilities that help them eliminate opponents. The main goal remains unclear to everyone – vampires are killing each other, leaving the mortals relieved, as there’s no need for vampire hunters when other clans fulfill that role.

Sniper Elite 5

Developer: Rebellion, the game is set to release on May 26, 2022. It will be available on platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

This is already the fifth installment of the game about a sniper participating in World War II. This time, the developers promise realistic battles, good third-person tactics, and even cooler cinematic moments of bullets hitting enemies.

The new part, Sniper Elite 5, takes us to France. It’s 1944, and the Allies, with French support, are trying to weaken the German offensive and the “Atlantic Wall” fortification. Karl Fairburne discovers information about Project “Kraken,” which reveals that the Allies are heading to Normandy. However, the main character is not satisfied with this and aims to thwart the secret society’s plans and the project.

Developers promise players not only cool moments (which were present in previous parts) but also full weapon customization, a feature long practiced by CoD: Vanguard (Warzone), good physics, and the opportunity to engage in PvP modes to upgrade your character.

Pioner

Developer: GFA Games, the game is set to release in 2022 (though only the beta was shown on this date, the full release has not happened yet). It will be available on platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

A promising multiplayer shooter from Russian developers that allows players to survive and explore the surrounding world. The initial footage of the game and gameplay showed a strong resemblance to GSC Game World’s Stalker series.

Soviet factories and buildings long abandoned by society, surrounded by various abominations, anomalies, and mutants. Based on the description, it can be said that this is a Russian version of Stalker, but its success in the gaming industry will become clear upon release.

The Day Before

Developer: Fntastic, the game is set to release on June 21, 2022. It will be available on platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Another title from Russian developers, once again set in a post-apocalyptic world with a multiplayer mode. All events take place in America, which has been hit by an epidemic, turning all the living into bloodthirsty zombies. There is no vaccine, making it challenging to save the population. People often form different teams and even gangs to survive and fend off the bloodthirsty zombies.

The authors promise a fully open world divided into different zones of America. It’s important to note that you need to search for resources, battle various hordes of zombies and living people who want to obtain free resources. The loot you acquire can be used for your survival or to develop your community. You can also sell or trade them with other players.

A sort of zombie survival game, who needs it? It’s unknown, as there are many ideas similar to those in similar genre games. However, the well-directed trailers look promising.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Developer: GSC Game World, the game is set to release in 2022. It will be available on platforms: PC and Xbox Series X/S.

Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl” developers have postponed their project to the next year, as the developers relocated to the Czech Republic. Early access is the maximum that Russian gamers can hope for, and even that is unlikely, as pre-orders have been declined.

The new installment tells us about the events in Pripyat, the increasing problems there, the growing strength of the Zone, and Skif’s desire to finally destroy his ultimate enemy in the heart of Chernobyl.

This is a shortlist of shooters in 2022. Of course, we could mention Saints Row, ARC Raiders, Evil West, System Shock 3, and the remake, but it’s unlikely that these projects will achieve great success after their release. However, if they turn out better than they seem to us, then we will add them to this list.

Play only good shooters and games, and don’t pay attention to weak projects; they often aren’t worth your money and time.
