You know how the laws of nature work: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. For every masterpiece released in 2021, there were the most disastrous games. It’s easy to pay tribute to the best games, but it’s equally important to remember which games are better not to buy and forget about them like a bad dream.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

After two years of developing the mobile version of GTA, Rockstar Games released a remaster of their classic games — GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. After launch, the version was riddled with game-breaking bugs, typos, poorly-rendered textures, and much more. Character models looked deformed, bridges disappeared, and the iconic soundtrack was completely removed. In San Andreas, some players experienced such Heavy Rain that it was nearly impossible to see anything on the screen. And for all this, the developers were asking for around $60! Yes, GTA in 2021 is a perfect example of what the worst games look like.

Battlefield 2042

One of the most ambitious shooters of the year boldly started by announcing the abandonment of a single-player story mode. With a strong focus on the multiplayer segment, the game introduced cross-platform play, large maps, and matches with 128 players. But EA released the game, and within a week, BF2042 became one of the worst games with a catastrophic user rating on Steam. Reports of unstable servers and absurd errors began piling up from the day of launch. The game crashed when joining a match, bullet hits weren’t registering, weapons and vehicles were unbalanced, and destructible environments and realistic soldier movements seemed to disappear. Some even believe that all the worst games of 2021 can be characterized by Battlefield 2042.

Biomutant

Bad games are released often, but it’s frustrating when a high-budget game turns out to be pure trash. That’s what happened with Biomutant. It simply didn’t live up to expectations, and as a result, reviews were extremely mixed. Weak combat system, highly awkward dialogues with unclear storytelling mechanics, ambiguous decisions regarding the karma system and multiple ENDINGS, and purely formal RPG elements prevented the game from becoming a revelation. Even colorful graphics couldn’t save the developers from disappointment.

eFootball 2022

To compete with the FIFA franchise, Konami decided to go with a free-to-play strategy where players could enjoy the game as an online service. But after the launch, eFootball 2022 became a laughingstock: both fans and critics commented on its horrendous visual effects. From a technical standpoint, the game had a laggy engine that didn’t respond to your actions, poor gameplay, and grass fields often flickered. Even the core aspect of a football game, ball physics, was terrible. Furthermore, it lacked content, offering only 9 teams and a one-time ticket for an online tournament.

King’s Bounty 2

A well-known strategy franchise for the Russian player turned into a complete disappointment in 2021. In King’s Bounty 2, players take on the role of one of three available characters, complete quests, and demonstrate tactical acumen. However, the game starts to crumble in terms of game design. The quests seem archaic, dull, and uninteresting, as does the musical accompaniment. From a performance perspective, the game lacked optimization, character models often got cut off, clothing textures glitched, and it felt like everything was a forgery. Unfortunately, King’s Bounty 2 is a playable product that leaves no emotional impact.
